Book Match Magic for Luxurious London Apartments
Abracadabra! Master-tilers Marc Hillingenn, of Marc Tiling, and Gary Walsh, of GB Walsh Floor and Wall Tiling, really pulled this marvellous marble entrance hall revamp like a rabbit from the proverbial hat. We’re sure you’ll agree that the effect of our Calacatta Marble Book Match Tiles is on par with the astonishing feats of Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee back in the day – repeat after us, “Yes, Porcel-Thin!”
The grand entrance hall, lobby and staircases of these North London luxury apartments now feature an interior design sensation created from Porcel-Thin’s Calacatta Marble effect Book Match Tiles brought to fruition by tilers Marc and Gary, Tilemaster Adhesives and Schlüter®-TREP stair nosing profiles.
During the renovation of a luxury apartment block, Marc and Gary installed a total of 280 sqm Calacatta Book Match marble effect tiles (each measuring 120 x 60 cm with a thickness of 4.8 mm) across seven flights of stairs.
Hard graft and skill not hocus-pocus
Working as night owls, so as not to interfere with use of the stairs by day, all stair risers, treads and skirtings were expertly and individually arranged. Then, templates were created before each tile was cut and installed to ensure the pattern was seamless. These weren’t the only meticulous motions taken by our tame-tilers; they also transferred the pattern to the ceiling bulkheads and wall recesses for flawless continuity – much more effort than a wave of a wand or a slight of hand.
“My attention to detail is of paramount importance to me, as is my relationship with the client,” says Marc, “I will go to extraordinary lengths to give them their 'vision' even when others say it's not possible to do so.” This professional attitude and commitment to precision is just one reason why Marc Tiling and Porcel-Thin has conjured such a magical working relationship.
Voila – versatile and vivacious
The effect is enchanting. The classic beauty of the Calacatta marble effect with a realistic book-matched pattern printed across 20 ultra-thin porcelain tiles creates one large exquisite 4.8 m x 3 m image. Suitable for walls and floors – and used previously for high-profile interior design projects such as this luxury hotel bathroom by The Studio Harrods – our Book Match collection combines the style of natural stone with the substance of strength and sustainability, characteristics inherent to all Porcel-Thin tiles.
For a chic look, the Book Match tiles used on the walls in this luxury London pad were polished but those used on the floor benefited from a subtle matt finish to maximise safety. Schlüter®-TREP stair nosing profiles were also used with safety in mind, to protect the edges of the stairs and minimise the likelihood of slips and trips.
Commenting on the installation, Marc said, “I am extremely proud to have been involved with this project, thanks to Gary and Ray [of Porcel-Thin] for the opportunity and their support.”
