10 UK Shows Interior Design Professionals Should Attend in 2018

Each year the Porcel-Thin team attends many of the best UK trade interiors & building events where we meet potential customers, garner inspiration and showcase our latest porcelain tile collections. In previous years, we’ve attended ecobuild, Ideal Home Show, 100%design, SLEEP and more but there are many other shows with a lot to offer interior designers and project specifiers alike. Here’s a list of our top picks for 2018.


1 – January Furniture Show

January 21-24 2018, NEC Birmingham,    

“The big one” for furniture and interiors buyers alike and previously known as the Interiors Birmingham Exhibition, this blossoming show reveals the latest launches and freshest trends for the coming year. Now attracting no less than 21,000 visitors, 500 exhibitors and seeing around £500 million worth of orders placed each year – this is a must-attend event for flooring retailers.


2 – Surface Design Show

February 6-8 2018, Business Design Centre London,

With a promise to showcase the latest and greatest wall covering and flooring that the design industry has to offer, Surface Design Show connects ground-breaking and exciting materials with an audience of architects, specifiers and designers. A history spanning over 10 years and the only event in the UK to focus solely on interior and exterior surfaces, this is where industry professionals can expect to gain new insights while networking with over 5,000 visitors.


3 – ecobuild 2018

March 6-8 2018, ExCel London,

Considered “the number one event for forward thinkers in the built environment” and now in its 14th year, the ecobuild show attracts 25,400 visitors and over 450 exhibitors. With change and innovation at its core, ecobuild aims to connect and inspire the entire built environment specification chain making it an ideal place to network with senior level architects and developers. The Porcel-Thin team attended last year and we exhibited our eco-friendly tiles – here’s looking forward to exhibiting and attending again in the future.   


4 – Ideal Home Show 2018

March 17 – April 2 2018, Olympia London,

A hub of ideas and inspiration for the home, now its 11th year, this popular show offers everything you need – from kitchen flooring and bathroom wall coverings, to bedrooms fixtures and basement fittings. All, under one roof for 16 days, is brought to life by talks from guest experts including architect Oliver Heath and interior designer Julia Kendall.  Porcel-Thin are proud to have displayed at a number of past Ideal Home Shows, last year presenting Bac-Tech – our newly launched antibacterial porcelain tile collection.


5 – Grand Designs Live

5-13 May 2018, ExCel London,

Based on Kevin McCloud’s successful Channel 4 TV show, Grand Designs Live is the UK’s top self-build and home improvement event combining six shows in one venue. This nine day award-winning interior and exterior design extravaganza boasts a bill of expert advice and product launches that will provide the encouragement you need to smash a portfolio of your own grand designs. There are also shows at other UK venues in May and October.


6 – Homebuilding & Renovating Show

June 16-17 2018, SEC Glasgow,

Located in the heart of Scotland, this is the go-to exhibition for self-builders and renovators at all stages of construction and design. Whether you’re looking for answers to frequently asked questions, bespoke advice or to see 1000s of the latest products in situ, there’s sure to be something that will help make your projects sing.  There are shows from the same organisers throughout the year at venues all over the UK.


7 – 100%design

September 19-22 2018, Olympia London,  

Not only the largest and longest-running design trade event for industry professionals in the UK, 100%design is also the strongest platform for showcasing new names as well as innovations from established brands such as Porcel-Thin. In fact, we launched Leviathan, our extra-large format porcelain tiles there last year. Brimming with innovative creative concepts from emerging talent as well as informative talks from those leading the way in contemporary design and architecture, this is a truly inspirational event. 


8 – Independent Hotel Show

October 16-17 2018, Olympia London,

With more than 6,000 visitors including specialist specifiers for the hotel and leisure industries, this is the biggest business event in support of luxury, boutique independent hotels. Porcel-Thin were among the 300+ exhibitors in 2016, revealing beauties such as our Mona Lisa Nero Portoro Marble tiles used in the refurb of the gorgeous Crazy Bear Hotel.


9 – London Build Show

October 23-24 2018, Olympia National London,

Your chance to mingle and do business with the crème of contractors, developers, designers, architects and specifiers from the South East, London Build brings together 300+ exhibitors across eight exhibition zones. Over 30,000 visitors will get the chance to experience talks from more than 200 industry bods and check out feature areas from the VR & Digital Construction Hub to the Skills Hub.  


10 – Sleep

November 20-21 2018, Business Design Centre London,

Coined the leading hotel design, development and architecture event in Europe, Sleep attracts 4,700 professionals from all over the world. With top keynote speakers and industry panellists as well as a sizeable exhibition space, visitors can experience the finest products in hotel design, which “deliver beyond the functional to create lasting memories that inspire”. Porcel-Thin has exhibited here a number of times over the years and, in 2015, our Book Match marble effect porcelain tile collection was selected by The Studio Harrods for their luxury hotel suite design study.
